KATHMANDU: Japan has provided Rs 580 million to the Nepal government for the construction of Khurkot-Nepalthok road section stretching for about 37 km, the main corridor between the capital city Kathmandu and the eastern Terai area, on Wednesday.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the project in the Capital today, Kunio Takahasi, ambassador of Japan to Nepal, said Japan has been extending grant assistance over Rs. 21 billion in total for the Sindhuli Road Project since 1995, being the world’s largest grant aid project implemented by Japan. It stretches for about 160 km.
Besides, the Japanese government has been constructing 33 bridges to provide better access to local people of the villages adjoining the Sindhuli road to uplift the living standards of rural communities, said the ambassador.
The ambassador hopes that the Sindhuli road will be a symbol of Japan-Nepal friendship and will help lead to peace and prosperity for a new Nepal, thereby connecting the hearts of the people of Japan and Nepal.
